Welcome to Rutherford County

The Blue Ridge Mountains. The South Mountains. We’re home to Lake Lure, Chimney Rock and “small town friendly” cities such as Forest City, Rutherfordton, Spindale and more. Come relax and play in the Blue Ridge foothills of Western North Carolina.

A new regional interpretive heritage sign trail allows visitors to explore cultural and national heritage sites in historic small towns and cities across WNC.

We love giving residents and visitors’ different ways to enjoy our county, and one of the best is through our many scenic driving routes!
